Joe Chellman, Principal Shoofly Design, has been a web designer since 1996 and a drummer since 1989. He received his master’s degree in Human-Computer Interaction from Carnegie Mellon University, focusing on usability design, in 1999. When he's not whacking hollow objects with sticks or building web sites, Joe can be found walking the dog, baking cakes, and grooming his Wookiees. Joe favors clean, simple design, both visually and functionally. He is an avid supporter of web standards and accessibility guidelines and laws, and he builds sites to comply with both. Joe’s technical repertoire includes HTML, CSS, PHP, MySQL, XML, Lasso, JavaScript, Shockwave, and Flash.
Peter Deitz – Online Networking Design
As a blogger, social media consultant, and founder of Social Actions, Peter Dietz's work is based on the idea that peer-to-peer citizen initiatives are the best incubator for broad social change. Initially a technical consultant on several human rights and global governance projects in New York City, Peter decided to launch his own project, moving to Montreal and founding Social Actions. With a stated mission of helping would-be philanthropists make a difference, Social Actions helps individuals and organizations use social media to plan, implement, and support peer-to-peer social change campaigns so that grassroots solutions to local and global problems can flourish. In addition to highlighting leaders in the social sector in his own blog, About Micro-Philanthropy, Peter is a guest blogger on Social Edge, the Stanford Social Innovation Review, and Pop Tech. Peter frequently gives talks on person-to-person fundraising, micro-philanthropy, and the philanthropic web, and he has contributed articles to The Case Foundation, Personal Democracy Forum, Giving 2.0, TechSoup, and NTEN. Peter earned his BA in History at McGill University and his MA in History from the University of Toronto.
